Las Vegas gives a family session four completely different backdrops inside a half-hour drive: red sandstone desert, the Strip at night, green city parks, and a climate-controlled studio. Most families pick one location; larger groups often split a two-hour session across two. Here is how each one shoots and what to expect on the day.
The desert
Red Rock Canyon & the dry lake bed
Red Rock Canyon is the most requested family photo location in Las Vegas, and for good reason — red sandstone cliffs, open desert light, and no crowds once you are off the scenic drive. It is twenty-five minutes west of the Strip and works for groups of any size, including reunions of fifteen or more.
Desert sessions run in the last ninety minutes before sunset. Bring flat shoes for the short walk in, water for the kids, and a light layer for after the sun drops. Red Rock requires a commercial photography permit and an entry fee, both of which we arrange and include in your quote.
The Strip
Bellagio fountains & the Eiffel Tower
If your family is visiting Las Vegas, the Strip is the photo you will actually hang on the wall. We shoot the Bellagio fountains, the Paris balconies and bridges, and the Venetian arcades — the landmarks that say Vegas at a glance, lit and shot at blue hour rather than in flat daylight.
Strip sessions start about twenty minutes before sunset and run into the neon. Wear something you can walk in; we cover four to six spots on foot within a few blocks. Weeknights are noticeably quieter than weekends, and December through March gives the best temperatures.
Parks & lifestyle
Sunset Park, Floyd Lamb & your own street
Green grass, big trees and backlight — the softest option, and the easiest one with toddlers and newborns. Sunset Park and Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs both give shade, parking close to where we shoot, and restrooms, which matters more than people expect with small kids.
We also shoot at home and in your own neighborhood park. In-home lifestyle sessions are the right call for newborn photos, matching-shirt family shots, and anyone who would rather not manage a drive and a wardrobe change in the same hour.
The studio
Formal portraits & holiday cards
Studio family portraits are the ones that get framed and passed down — clean backdrop, controlled light, everyone lit evenly, no squinting into the sun. We keep white, grey, navy and holiday backdrops on hand, and the light is built rather than found, so the result is identical at 10am or 8pm.
This is the choice for summer bookings, holiday card sessions in November and December, newborn work, and any group that needs seating. Weather never cancels a studio session, and we can move a rained-out desert shoot indoors the same evening.

Family sessions run year-round in Las Vegas — June through August we shoot at sunrise or indoors, and October through April is comfortable at almost any hour.
